A fitting close to our Kona getaway, we all gather around mom to celebrate her 50th with a coconut cream cake, from a local Kona coconut.
Mom, we know you've talked about writing a book some day--maybe this is a good way to start?! I'm not sure if you already have a blog, but we look forward to checking in and reading of your exploits, wherever they end up.

Happy Birthday, Mom! This trip has been one to remember for the rest of our lives. We are so lucky to be able to spend such an auspicious birthday with you in this gorgeous place. It is as though the natural beauty of these islands reflects our feelings toward you, you who is the anchor of this family. You truly have been the glue which has kept us together, organized, and strong through our ever challenging endeavors. 50 is a milestone, and one that is most admirable. What a memory this trip will be for all of us.
Three nights ago, as beautiful as the kilouea lava flow were those stars piercing through the darkness. You can't see all of those from the city, but they're the same stars; those that remind me of your corny saying and make me smile.
I'm looking forward to some good posts, and many more adventures and joyful birthdays under the starlight.
